If anyone knows the secrets of how to make foolproof homemade play dough, it is Miss Christie, Lead Librarian of the Fountain Hills Branch Library. Miss Christie has made countless batches of homemade play dough, and shares with us her foolproof diy playdough recipe.
DIY Play Dough Recipe
2 Cups Flour
1 Cup Salt
2 Cups Water
4 Teaspoons Cream of Tartar
3 Tablespoons Oil
Food Coloring (optional)
Combine all ingredients in a large saucepan. Add several drops of food coloring to the water before combining it with other ingredients. Cook on medium to low heat until dough holds together and pulls away from pan. Cool and knead.
Miss Christie’s Play Dough Recipe Tips:
- If you want to make a smaller batch with multiple colors, separate dough into individual balls, add food coloring to each ball, and knead.
- Any cooking oil (canola, corn, vegetable oil) will work. The oil makes the dough soft and pliable.
- Store in an air tight container in the refigerator. This will prevent the play dough from spoiling, and will keep for several months.
