We have recently had the pleasure of meeting Sonia from Sollus Nutrition and Fitness and since it is almost time to start planning healthy eating resolutions for the New Year, we wanted to share information about her local Fountain Hills business with you. We have all heard the importance of eating clean and including as many whole foods in our diet as possible, but it can be a daunting task to get started on that path. Well, Sollus is a nutrition and fitness business that Sonia and her partner, Lonni, started to help educate people on that very matter. Sollus provides several programs and services that educate their clients on proper nutrition, whether they are looking to lose weight or are interested in adapting to a healthier lifestyle. Programs and services include: meal plans, nutritional education, grocery tours, a pantry/fridge detox, personal training and more. Keep reading for a Q&A with Sonia. Don’t miss the exciting giveaway details at the bottom of the post!
Tell us a little bit about your programs?
We have three programs designed to educate people on proper nutrition. Throughout each program our clients are provided with tools they need to live a healthier life, plus we debunk several myths when it comes to nutrition and fitness. We don’t believe in counting calories or putting people through unnecessary restrictions in order to lose weight. Our programs are tailored to fit the needs of each individual and not created based on a One Size Fits All mentality. We offer customized meals plans as well as custom fitness plans.
What led you and your partner to start this business?
Over several coffee dates and text messages, Lonni and I both recognized our conversations typically veered towards nutrition. Both of our youngest children were entering grade school and we wanted to start a business that we were both passionate about, and that would allow the flexibility to still be stay at home moms. It took us years of dieting to figure out that losing weight really does not have to be hard. We started educating ourselves and realizing that spending hours upon hours in the gym wasn’t the answer. Nutrition is 80% of the overall equation, and we wanted to share with others what took us over 3 years to figure out.
What are some common misconceptions people have about eating healthy?
We hear a lot of people say that eating healthy is boring which could not be further from the truth. With Pinterest and wonderful food blogs, the opportunities are endless with the amount of delicious recipes at our disposal. Eating healthy doesn’t mean lettuce and carrots either. We have over 2000 recipes on our Pinterest page that goes well beyond vegetables and provides recipes for each skill level.
Do you provide assistance for restrictive diets like vegetarians, vegans, gluten free and lactose intolerant?
Absolutely! Our Momentum program offers 4 weeks of customized meal plans. We tailor your meal plans to meet the needs of you and your family.
Are the food plans you put together kid-friendly?
Of course! Between the two of us we have 5 kids, and a couple of very picky eaters. Being moms ourselves we know it’s hard to please the whole family, so when creating custom meal plans, we take your children into consideration.
Do you believe there are a lot of options for families to be active here in Fountain Hills?
Yes, and it’s one of the reasons our family moved to Arizona. Since moving to Fountain Hills two years ago we’ve started hiking, biking, swimming and signing up for family events. We are lucky to live in such a beautiful area with great parks.
Any new and exciting plans for 2014?
We are excited to launch our personalized services in the corporate world in 2014. Our wellness resourcing offerings include supporting small to mid-size businesses in understanding their benefits and incentives as it relates to corporate wellness initiatives, developing effective communication and buy in through the company and managing the roll out of programs that focus on employee needs and reducing overall health care costs.
Last, please tell us why do you HEART Fountain Hills?
I grew up in the Pacific Northwest and have been visiting Fountain Hills since 1993. My parents would bring us here for spring break and long weekends. 2 years ago my husband and I decided to relocate for better weather and to be closer to family. We love the small community and feel it’s a great place to raise our children.
