Day Trip: Mesa Riverview Park and Rumbi Island Grill Giveaway

A Visit to Riverview Park in Mesa

riverview park - iheartfountainhills.comWith the weather cooling off (and by this I mean under 100 degrees in the morning), we decided to take the kids to the much anticipated Riverview Park in Mesa – only 25 minutes from Fountain Hills.

riverview park - iheartfountainhills.comThis newly renovated park features a 50 foot tall Genesis climbing tower, a 60 foot long caterpillar mesh rope climbing structure, multiple play areas, and a splash pad.  In a word, it is an AMAZING park for kids of all ages.

Rumbi BBQ Salad

After leaving the park, we decided to take the kids to Rumbi Island Grill.  Rumbi was always one of my favorite places to go to for lunch when I worked in the area.  As a Hawaii native, I am usually pretty skeptical about restaurants featuring “island or Hawaiian food,” but Rumbi is incredibly fresh, well-executed, flavorful food at reasonable prices.  For all you carnivores out there, Rumbi’s Luau Pork Plate with slow-roasted kalua pork, steamed rice, and macaroni salad is authentic as it gets to a Hawaiian “mixed plate”.

My favorite salad is the Aloha Mango Salad with diced mango, gorgonzola cheese, red pepper, red onion, tortilla strips, your choice of protein and creamy mango-passion vinaigrette.

Jean loved the Rumbi BBQ Salad with black beans, corn, cilantro, scallions, julienne carrots, tortilla strips, roma tomatoes, mozzarella, your choice of protein, with ranch dressing and drizzled with tangy Kahuku BBQ sauce. The kids split the Cabo Fish Tacos served with the addictive Rumbi coconut rice and beans and Rumbi fries.  And everyone fought over the chocolate lava cake.

Rumbi has locations in Avondale, Chandler, and Mesa in Arizona, as well as Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, and Utah.

We love Riverview Park. During the spring, we often packed a picnic dinner and took the kids there to play till the sun went down. And since our kids range in age from 2-12, there was something for all to do.

We also enjoy going to the IDEA museum and First Fridays along Mesa’s Main Street.
